Texas Rep. James Talarico Knocks Out Jasmine Crockett in High-Stakes Senate Primary
Texas Democrats now have a nominee in one of the most watched Senate primaries of 2026 but the outcome didn’t match early expectations.
State Rep. James Talarico defeated U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, securing roughly 52–53% of the vote and avoiding a runoff, according to the Associated Press and multiple election trackers.
The race drew national attention because Crockett entered the contest as a high-profile progressive figure with strong support among urban voters and the Democratic base.

But Talarico’s statewide campaign, built around a faith-focused populist message and outreach beyond major cities, steadily gained momentum late in the race, according to reporting from multiple outlets.
The primary was also overshadowed by disputes over voting disruptions in parts of Texas, including Dallas County, which Crockett’s campaign criticized as unfair after court rulings blocked extended voting hours.
Crockett ultimately conceded and called for party unity.
Talarico now advances to the November 2026 general election, where Democrats hope to challenge decades of Republican control of Texas’ Senate seat.
