The Coup You Missed
And the Flashpoint We May Still Prevent
It didn’t start with tanks.
It didn’t need to.
The coup came quietly.
With memos. With silence. With the systematic dismantling of law disguised as normalcy.
It came through 124 executive orders in 85 days, mass deportations without hearings, defiance of court orders, and open contempt for the Constitution.
And most of the country didn’t notice.
But they’ll notice what’s coming next.

Support truth. Stay informed.
Because history doesn’t always knock down the door.
Sometimes it just waits for the temperature to rise and the protests to begin.
We are heading toward a Kent State moment, the kind of flashpoint that changes everything.
And unless something breaks the trajectory, people will die.
This is the truth.
And it’s not alarmist.
It’s Day 85.
Let’s walk through how we got here, and what might still be done before the breaking point arrives.
“124 executive orders. 85 days. One regime reshaped.”
Eighty-Five Days to the Edge
This wasn’t drift. It was demolition.
In less than three months, the Trump administration didn’t just change direction; it tore down the machinery of democracy, department by department, right in front of us.
Executive Orders as Bludgeon
124 executive orders in 85 days. Not governance — detonation.
Climate reporting erased.
→ Now no agency has to admit the damage.ICE granted extrajudicial authority.
→ Legal process replaced by discretion.Oversight revoked. Transparency dismantled.
→ What we can’t see, we can’t fight.DEI protections axed across agencies.
→ Equity reduced to a liability.
The Judiciary Undermined
They didn’t argue with the courts; they ignored them.
Defied a Supreme Court order to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
→ Law became optional.DOJ refused to enforce lower court contempt rulings.
→ Judicial authority eroded.Judges smeared as “globalist activists.”
→ Undermining trust in impartiality.Emergency powers expanded to bypass legal challenge.
→ Checks and balances bypassed.
The Press Targeted
When accountability spoke, they silenced it.
Executive order banned federal funds to newsrooms deemed “anti-American.”
→ Public media starved.White House blocked AP reporters, ignoring a federal court order to reinstate them.
Journalists sued for accurate reporting — some paid, others silenced.
Student media stripped of accreditation.
→ Truth equated with treason.
“They didn’t seize power. They dismantled everything that could stop them.”
The Legal Profession Intimidated
Legal defense became a liability.
Executive order blocked federal contracts to firms litigating immigration, climate, and civil rights.
→ Advocacy penalized.Attorneys branded as national security risks.
→ Professional reputations tarnished.Civil rights litigation chilled by threat of federal blacklisting.
→ Justice system compromised.Pro bono legal networks surveilled.
→ Defense treated as defiance.
Economic Chaos by Design
This wasn’t strategy; it was sabotage.
145% tariffs on Chinese goods triggered a global trade war in days.
→ Prices soared. Panic buying spread. Supply chains fractured.China retaliated with 125% tariffs.
→ Exporters collapsed. Farmers left behind. Wall Street reeled.Retailers added “tariff surcharges” to receipts.
→ The collapse was itemized in plain sight. Then, Trump paused the tariffs after vowing he never would.
→ Six days of chaos. A whiplash reversal. Confidence shattered.
Checks and Balances Obliterated
Coequal branches became rubber stamps.
Congressional subpoenas ignored.
→ Legislative oversight nullified.18 Inspectors General fired.
→ Independent oversight gutted.DOGE dismantled watchdog agencies, hollowing CFPB, USAID, and more.
Whistleblower protections rolled back.
→ Silencing dissent.Oversight buried under “national security exceptions.”
→ Transparency cloaked.
The Streets Are Already Stirring
This isn't a warning about future unrest.
It's already here.
Protests have erupted nationwide:
April 5: “Hands Off!” drew millions to 1,400+ cities.
April 19: Another round is planned across all 50 states.
Tesla Takedown actions continue at dealerships and gutted agencies.
Meanwhile, federal influence deepens:
More ICE-local enforcement agreements (287g).
Military gear redistributed to local departments.
The stage is set.
The pattern is clear.
“This is not yet a dictatorship. But it’s not a democracy either.”
The Flashpoint Is Coming
The rage is rising. The people are stepping out of line.
And history tells us what comes next.
They escalate.
They crack down.
They spill blood.
The moment will come. And when it does, they will say:
It was justified.
They were terrorists.
They were a threat to the homeland.
And if we’ve been numbed long enough, we might believe them.
We are waiting for our Kent State moment.
And what follows will be written in blood.
What Comes Next Is Not Destiny — Yet
But here’s what’s still true:
The courts can still act.
Congress can still act.
Federal employees — whistleblowers, resisters, insiders — can still act.
You — the one reading this — can still act.
The Memory Keepers Will Matter Most
In Argentina, the regime disappeared thousands. But the people remembered, documented, and preserved the truth until justice caught up.
We are not there yet, but close enough to see it.
If the courts fail, if Congress stays silent, if violence comes, someone must keep the record.
The memory of the truth will be a weapon, one that outlasts the regime, one that tells the future: You were not crazy. This did happen.
And it starts here, on Substack, in quiet conversations, in reclaimed webpages, in saying their names, in naming their crimes, in refusing to remain silent.
“The coup didn’t come with a gun. It came with a press release.”
So if you’re wondering what to do, start here:
Tell the truth.
Refuse to normalize this.
Show up.
Support the fighters.
Keep your eyes open.
This isn’t over. It’s the part where people decide what side of history they want to be on.
Because the moment is coming.
And when it does, the question won’t be who gave the order.
It will be who stood in the way.
Editor’s Note: I struggled with this for days. The pieces were coming together in the back of my mind, but I pushed them away. I started this article multiple times but kept turning away, starting over, and distracting myself with other things because I could not face it. But the signs won’t go away, even if I don’t point at them or call them out. I couldn’t focus on reporting. Then I remembered Kent State, May 4, 1970, an event my mother referenced so many times in my childhood as a defining moment of her life. And while that was happening subconsciously, Trump stood in the Oval Office with the President of El Salvador and said precisely what I have been dreading. I’ve struggled with writing this, afraid of being an alarmist, of being reactionary. But I can’t find another interpretation. I want very much to be wrong. I pray that I am. Until then, I record, I document, and I feel the weight of hopelessness.
