Very informative with links to essential information…some of which I knew about, but others not so much. Downloading Activote now. It looks very promising and most useful to me. 💯🫶
Thank you for your post. I didn't know that voter turnout was usually so low. That's really alarming. I think people don't appreciate what democracy means. And that's a big problem, because if people don't participate in democracy, it's very easy to destroy it.
And I sincerely hope that a typo won't damage your reputation and credibility.
If we've reached the point in this world that a typo can remove the ability to speak to one another, I fear we are beyond the point that an informed and motivated electorate can mend.
1. You destroy your credibility when, in the FIRST paragraph, you MISSPELL the candidate for mayor of New York city’s name. His name is ZOHRAN MAMDANI.
2. The strength of a democracy relies and depends on an INFORMED electorate. That is what needs talking about, not the fact that the vast majority of the politicians and political system is without character and integrity, and see nothing wrong with lying to or misleading the voting public. We, the citizens, have the responsibility to research ballot initiatives and candidates. We are responsible for knowing and understanding who and what we vote for.
I apologize for the mistake. As I am a human, work for free, and never claimed to be a journalist, I hope you will see fit to forgive me, especially as the article was not about the candidate.
Not really. Personally, I welcome specific criticism and reflect on the other person’s POV.
Misspelling a person of color’s name suggests you’re either racist or lazy. Not a good look.
My second point reflects my own fears and anxiety about the moment we are in and my desire to focus on reinforcing our feelings of powerFULness by talking about what we, individually, CAN do to change the things we can.
I understand your point, I just don’t think it “destroyed” Marie’s credibility. Mistakes happen.
For example, I’m a counselor and I work with a lot of non-binary & transgender individuals. I always ask their preferred pronouns. And still at times I’ll slip and misgender them with the wrong pronoun. I apologize and we move on. My credibility isn’t destroyed. My humanity is exposed.
An informed electorate is very important, I agree.
Yes, I get your point. We ARE all human. We all make mistakes. AND…
There are a number of reasons why I called this poster out on their misspelling; but, number one is that I’m sick to death of people making getting things wrong OKAY. We’re normalizing this blase’ attitude toward getting things wrong, towards being inaccurate, creating a false equivalence between the day of the week and the name of someone running for office. Making it equally okay to not fact check and not edit your work before you publish it.
It’s a slippery slope to diminishing critical thinking skills.
And, finally, I wonder why you feel the need to defend this poster against my criticism.

Thank you for your work, it is critical to help retake our local government and Commissions.
Great piece.

Good article. Thanks for the links. Your credibility is first rate.
A bit harsh don’t you think?

I happen to consider her a friend.
