The FBI Is No Longer Independent
With Patel in Charge, It’s Trump’s Personal Police Force
The confirmation of Kash Patel as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is not just another political appointment. It is a seismic shift in the balance of law enforcement, power, and democracy itself. Patel’s history as a fiercely partisan operative, his unwavering loyalty to Donald Trump, and his public targeting of perceived enemies make his ascension to the FBI’s top position uniquely dangerous.
For the first time in modern history, an individual who has pled the Fifth Amendment in a federal investigation, compiled an enemies list, and actively worked to discredit his own agency has been placed in charge of it. His confirmation, backed by a Republican-controlled Senate, shows that the FBI, once a semi-independent enforcer of the law, may now serve as a political weapon for a president who has already demonstrated a willingness to dismantle democratic safeguards to retain power.

Who Is Kash Patel?
Patel first gained influence as a Republican operative on the House Intelligence Committee, where he played a key role in efforts to discredit the FBI’s investigation into Russian election interference. As a senior aide to Representative Devin Nunes, Patel was instrumental in producing the infamous Nunes Memo, which falsely claimed that the FBI had improperly surveilled Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. The memo was later debunked, but it helped erode public trust in the FBI’s ability to investigate Trump fairly.
Under the Trump administration, Patel was elevated to roles beyond his qualifications. He became Chief of Staff to the Acting Secretary of Defense, where he pushed baseless election fraud claims and supported Trump’s attempts to remain in power after losing the 2020 election. In 2023, he published a book, Government Gangsters, which included a list of officials he considered part of the deep state, many of whom worked in the Biden administration, intelligence agencies, and the FBI.
During his confirmation hearing, Patel denied this was an "enemies list" but refused to disavow the idea that some individuals should be investigated or prosecuted. He also faced questions over an AI-generated video he shared, which depicted him using a chainsaw on political opponents. His decision to circulate such violent imagery raises serious concerns about how he views his new role.
Yet he was confirmed, with only two Republicans crossing the aisle.
What Happens Next?
Patel’s appointment changes the role of the FBI in American governance. The FBI has a long history of controversial practices, from its surveillance abuses under J. Edgar Hoover to politically motivated investigations like COINTELPRO. However, since the 1970s, legal reforms, whistleblower protections, and internal oversight have helped prevent the agency from becoming an open tool of political retribution.
Those safeguards are now in question. Patel has never shown a commitment to upholding the law over serving Trump. His confirmation was not about maintaining the FBI’s integrity. It was about ensuring absolute loyalty to the president. The consequences will be severe.
Trump’s Enemies Are Now FBI Targets
The FBI is supposed to investigate crime without political bias. Under Patel, that principle collapses.
Expect renewed investigations into Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and other high-profile Democrats, even if no new evidence justifies them.
Former DOJ officials who pursued Trump’s criminal cases could face FBI scrutiny or fabricated charges.
Trump’s Allies Will Be Protected
Ongoing cases related to January 6th, Trump’s classified documents, and financial crimes could be quietly shut down or stalled.
Right-wing extremist groups that support Trump may receive less scrutiny from the FBI’s counterterrorism division, and Elon Musk will likely also be protected from prosecution.
Corruption investigations into Trump-connected businesses could be deprioritized or buried.
The FBI May Be Used for Political Retaliation Against the Press and Critics
Patel has previously filed defamation lawsuits against major media outlets. Now, he runs an agency with immense investigative power.
Journalists critical of Trump could face FBI probes leaked to conservative media to damage their credibility.
Whistleblowers inside government agencies may hesitate to speak out for fear of FBI harassment.
Patel Faces Unique Pressure to Obey Trump
While Patel’s history suggests he will be eager to carry out Trump’s wishes, he also faces unprecedented pressure to do so. Trump has already fired two FBI Directors without cause. In 2017, he dismissed James Comey, who led the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. In 2025, he removed Christopher Wray, who refused to pursue politically motivated cases against Trump’s enemies. Sidenote: Trump is the first President to fire an FBI Director without cause, and he did it twice.
Patel knows that if he does not align the FBI’s actions with Trump’s demands, he could be fired just as quickly. No previous FBI Director has taken office with this level of pressure from a president who has already shown he will remove anyone who does not serve his interests. Patel does not just have to be loyal to Trump. He must prove it constantly to keep his job.
What Can Be Done?
With Congress under Republican control, Trump loyalist Pam Bondi as Attorney General, and the courts slow-moving and often favorable to Trump, traditional checks on Patel’s power are weak. That leaves only a few remaining avenues for resistance.
1. FBI Agents and Internal Whistleblowers
The FBI is not just one man. Career agents may resist illegal orders or politically motivated investigations.
Whistleblowers could expose abuses, as seen during Watergate, Trump’s Ukraine scandal, and the January 6th investigations.
However, Patel will likely try to purge disloyal agents and install Trump loyalists.
2. State Attorneys General and Prosecutors
State-level prosecutors operate outside Patel’s control.
New York AG Letitia James and Georgia DA Fani Willis could continue cases against Trump and his associates.
However, Republican-led states could launch counter-investigations against Democrats, escalating political warfare.
3. International Intelligence Agencies
Foreign intelligence agencies like MI6 and Mossad could expose wrongdoing if Patel suppresses investigations.
If the FBI halts counterintelligence operations, allied governments may publicly reveal classified information.
Trump, in response, may retaliate by weakening intelligence-sharing agreements.
4. The Pentagon and National Security Officials
Patel has limited control over the military and CIA.
Pentagon officials could leak information or refuse unlawful directives if he obstructs national security investigations.
However, Trump’s ability to appoint loyalists to the Pentagon and NSA could neutralize this resistance.
The Reality: This Is Uncharted Territory
Kash Patel’s appointment as FBI Director represents a turning point in American history. The nation’s top law enforcement agency has never been so explicitly positioned as an instrument of political revenge. While mechanisms exist to expose abuses and resist illegal actions, Patel has more power than any FBI Director before him and fewer constraints.
The public should prepare for an FBI that does not serve justice but the will of one man. History has shown what happens when law enforcement is no longer accountable. If unchecked, Patel’s leadership could mark the moment when the FBI ceases to be an independent institution and becomes something far more dangerous: a tool for consolidating power.

Well I do not like this decision or any other moronic decisions that you and Trump have made to destroy people's lives and profit at the same time. You will be remembered as the biggest frauds in American history which I certainly will forget about after you both die. Your future is getting dimmer and dimmer.......
