Three American F-15s Mistakenly Shot Down Over Kuwait, Pentagon Says
Three U.S. fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses during active Middle East combat operations, U.S. Central Command says.
The three F-15E Strike Eagles were supporting broader operations when they were hit in a friendly fire incident, according to a CENTCOM release. All six U.S. aircrew members ejected safely and were recovered in stable condition, the statement added.
Kuwait has acknowledged the error and is participating in a joint investigation with U.S. forces to determine what went wrong. The downing took place amid intensified hostilities involving Iranian aircraft, drones and missiles, making identification in the heat of battle difficult.
Officials say more details will be released as the investigation continues, but there are no reported fatalities from the incident so far.
