Treasury Drops Anthropic Products as Trump Expands AI Crackdown
The Trump administration is cutting off a major AI vendor.
According to Reuters, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Monday that the U.S. Treasury Department and a federal housing agency are terminating all use of Anthropic products, including its Claude AI platform.
The move follows President Donald Trump’s directive ordering federal agencies to stop using the company’s technology.
The decision comes after months of tension between the administration and the AI firm over procurement policy and concerns about political bias in AI systems, as previously reported by Bloomberg and Politico.

Anthropic has denied political bias allegations and has maintained that its models meet federal compliance standards.
Reuters reported that no formal legal finding of misconduct has been issued against the company.
The announcement raises questions about whether other agencies will follow Treasury’s lead and how the decision may reshape federal AI contracts.
More agencies could clarify their positions in the coming days.
