Trump Administration Asks Judge to Halt State Lawsuit Over Abortion Pill Rules
The Trump administration is asking a federal judge to pause another lawsuit targeting access to the abortion pill mifepristone — escalating a legal battle over how the drug can be distributed nationwide.
The request comes as a coalition of states led by Missouri pushes to roll back Biden-era rules that allow the medication to be prescribed through telemedicine and delivered by mail. According to OSV News, the Justice Department argued the court should halt the case while the Food and Drug Administration conducts a new regulatory review.
Federal lawyers said the judge should either pause the case or dismiss it entirely, warning that court action now could interfere with the FDA’s ongoing evaluation of the drug’s safety rules.

The move follows a similar request earlier this year in a Louisiana-led lawsuit challenging the same abortion pill policies. According to previous filings, FDA reviews of drug regulations can take about a year.
The legal fight could have national consequences. Mifepristone is used in the majority of medication abortions in the United States, and any change to federal rules could reshape access across multiple states.
For now, the judge must decide whether the case proceeds — or waits for the FDA’s review.
