Trump Administration Sanctions China-Linked Firms as Iran War Pressure Expands
The Trump administration imposed sanctions Friday against nine mainland Chinese and Hong Kong entities and individuals accused of helping Iran acquire materials tied to its drone and ballistic missile programs, widening economic pressure connected to the ongoing Iran conflict.
The Treasury Department said several of the sanctioned firms allegedly helped Iran obtain raw materials and procurement support linked to Shahed-series drones and missile development. Officials said the effort is part of a broader campaign aimed at limiting Tehran’s ability to rebuild military production networks during the continuing regional crisis.
Separately, the State Department sanctioned Chinese satellite firms accused of supplying imagery that enabled Iranian strikes against U.S. forces in the Middle East.
The latest sanctions arrive as President Donald Trump attempts to balance military pressure with efforts to prevent the Iran conflict from expanding into a larger regional war. The administration has maintained a strategy combining retaliatory military strikes, naval deployments, and expanding sanctions against companies accused of supporting Iran’s military infrastructure.

The measures also come just days before Trump’s expected visit to China for talks with President Xi Jinping, increasing diplomatic pressure between Washington and Beijing.
The conflict has already disrupted shipping and energy markets after fighting near the Strait of Hormuz raised fears about oil supply stability. U.S. officials argue that cutting off Iran’s procurement and financing networks is central to preventing further escalation and limiting Tehran’s military capabilities.
China has historically criticized U.S. sanctions policy and has opposed what it calls Washington’s “long-arm jurisdiction” over foreign companies.
