If you ever needed proof that all the “protect the filibuster to save America” talk from Republicans was a sham, Donald Trump just handed it to you like a gold-plated subpoena.

These same Republicans who shrieked for years that Democrats ending the filibuster would “destroy the country,” “shred the Constitution,” and “usher in socialism”… suddenly don’t seem bothered when Trump says the quiet part out loud:

End the filibuster so I can rule without opposition.

Not govern.
Not negotiate.
Not build consensus.

Rule.

Because here’s what Trump actually said:

“We have to get the country open… the way we’re going to do it… is to terminate the filibuster… We’ll have this country so perfect… We’ll pass more legislation than anyone… It’ll be a beautiful machine.”

A “beautiful machine.”

For who?

Because last I checked, democracy is built on debate, compromise, checks and balances—not one guy with unlimited power and a grudge list.

🧠 The Hypocrisy Is Blinding

For years:

Republicans warned Democrats ending the filibuster = tyranny.
Now?

Trump wants Republicans to end it themselves so he can fast-track authoritarian rule.

It was never about “protecting America.”

It was never about “principle.”

It was never about “guardrails.”

It was about power—who holds it, and who gets to silence everyone else.

👑 This Isn’t Just Hypocrisy. It’s a Test.

Trump isn’t asking Republicans to end democracy.

He’s seeing if they’ll do it for him.

He’s betting that the very people who screamed that Democrats would “destroy the nation” by ending the filibuster will suddenly decide it’s patriotic when he does it.

Dictators don’t seize power alone.

They seize it with the applause of people who once swore they’d defend the Constitution.

People who—apparently—only believe in checks and balances when someone else holds power.

🇺🇸 America Was Not Built for Kings

Democracy is noisy. It’s frustrating. It requires debate and compromise.

Authoritarianism is efficient.

So is a shredder.

Trump’s promise of a “perfect machine” without dissent isn’t patriotism. It’s fascism wearing a little flag pin pretending to salute.

And the Republican Party has to answer a very simple question:

Were they ever defending democracy, or were they just defending the filibuster until Trump wanted the crown?

We already know the answer.

🗣️ Our Republic Doesn’t Run on Hypocrisy—It Runs on Us

If Republicans won’t stand up for democracy, we will.

Every kitchen table, every community, every voter who knows that freedom doesn’t die when one party loses power—it dies when both parties stop caring about power being checked at all.

No crowns here.
No perfect machines.
No American kings.

Not now.
Not ever.
