Trump Claims He Is “Terminating” Biden Documents Signed With Autopen
WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump claimed Thursday that he is “terminating” all documents and executive orders signed by former President Joe Biden using an autopen, a mechanical device that reproduces a handwritten signature.
Trump made the statement in a Truth Social post, saying “any document signed by Sleepy Joe Biden with the Autopen… is hereby terminated, and of no further force or effect.” He also said the autopen “is not allowed to be used” without direct presidential approval and accused Biden aides of using it improperly.
Biden’s use of the autopen has been under review by House Republicans, who argue that the device was used frequently during his final year in office. A recent congressional report raised questions about how often staff relied on the autopen for official documents.
Despite Trump’s statement, the use of an autopen has been accepted for decades. The Department of Justice has previously said presidential documents signed with an autopen are legally valid, and there is no ruling or statute that voids Biden-era orders signed this way.
Courts or federal agencies have not issued any directives changing the legal status of Biden’s executive actions.
Trump’s announcement signals an escalation in the political fight over Biden’s final-year decision-making, but any actual reversal of Biden-era policies would require formal rescission orders, legislation, or court action.
