Trump DOJ Refuses Bondi Hearing Appearance Over Epstein Files Subpoena
The Justice Department says Pam Bondi will not appear for a scheduled Epstein hearing, escalating a standoff with Congress just days after her removal.
The conflict centers on whether Bondi can avoid a subpoena tied to one of the most scrutinized investigations handled by the Trump administration.
According to Forbes, Bondi was ordered to testify April 14 as part of a House Oversight probe into the DOJ’s handling of Epstein files, including delays, redactions, and questions about missing disclosures.
Now, DOJ officials argue the subpoena no longer applies because Bondi was called in her official capacity as attorney general and is no longer in that role.
Lawmakers are rejecting that position.
Members of the committee from both parties say her firing does not remove her obligation to testify about decisions made while in office, and they are considering next steps.

“Even though she was fired, she must still answer to Congress,” Rep. Ro Khanna said, according to Newsweek.
The dispute adds to mounting questions surrounding Bondi’s tenure, which included bipartisan criticism over how Epstein-related records were handled and released.
It also comes amid broader instability inside the Justice Department following her dismissal, with officials offering conflicting explanations for why she was removed.
What happens next may depend on whether Congress reissues the subpoena or moves to compel testimony through legal action.
For now, the hearing remains uncertain.
