Trump Expands Iran Pressure Campaign With New China-Linked Sanctions
The Trump administration announced sanctions Friday against nine mainland Chinese and Hong Kong entities and individuals accused of helping Iran secure weapons materials tied to its drone and ballistic missile programs.
According to the Treasury and State Departments, the sanctions target companies allegedly connected to procurement networks supplying Iran’s military, including firms accused of supporting the country’s Shahed drone program and missile development. Separate sanctions also targeted Chinese satellite companies accused of providing imagery that enabled Iranian strikes against U.S. forces in the Middle East.

The move comes as President Donald Trump continues trying to prevent the Iran conflict from escalating into a broader regional war while maintaining military and economic pressure on Tehran.
The sanctions also arrive days before Trump’s expected trip to China, creating additional diplomatic tension between Washington and Beijing.
The administration argues the measures are necessary to disrupt Iran’s military supply chains and prevent Tehran from rebuilding drone and missile production capabilities after recent strikes and escalating naval confrontations in the Strait of Hormuz.
