Trump Extends Truce but Iran Escalates With Ship Seizures in Hormuz
Trump just extended the Iran ceasefire but the situation around it is becoming more unstable, not less.
According to The Guardian and Reuters, Trump announced the extension to give Iran more time to present a peace proposal, even as the U.S. continues a naval blockade in the region.
That move immediately raised tensions. Iranian officials rejected the extension and accused the U.S. of violating the ceasefire, while Iran’s military seized multiple commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz within hours.

At the same time, Trump claimed on Truth Social that Iran is “starving for cash” and wants the strait reopened, even as U.S. forces maintain control over shipping access.
The result is a standoff with conflicting claims about who controls the strait and whether the ceasefire is even holding.
With negotiations stalled and both sides escalating pressure, the path to a deal remains unclear and the risk of renewed conflict is rising.
