Trump Launches Fraud Task Force Led by JD Vance After Minnesota Medicaid Fight
President Donald Trump is preparing to give Vice President JD Vance a new national role investigating fraud tied to government programs and the effort is already triggering political backlash.
According to Reuters and other outlets, the White House says Trump will sign an executive order creating a federal anti-fraud task force led by Vance. The initiative expands earlier investigations in Minnesota and could examine several states the administration claims have weak oversight of social programs.
The move follows the administration’s decision to temporarily withhold roughly $259 million in Medicaid payments from Minnesota over alleged fraud concerns.

Trump allies say the task force will target fraud in federal benefits programs such as healthcare, housing assistance, and other taxpayer-funded services.
But Democratic leaders say the crackdown singles out blue states for political reasons and could threaten funding for programs serving low-income residents.
Officials in Minnesota and other states have already pushed back, setting up what could become a major federal-state political fight as the new task force begins its work.
