Trump-Massie Rift Deepens After Epstein Files Bill and Greene’s Resignation
Former President Donald Trump escalated Republican infighting over the weekend, attacking Rep. Thomas Massie while reacting to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s announcement that she will resign from Congress. In comments circulated Sunday, Trump said Greene had “started backing perhaps the worst Republican congressman in our history,” referring to Massie, and called him a “stupid person named Massie.”

Massie responded publicly on X, pointing out that Trump had just signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act — a bill Massie helped force through Congress to require the release of federal records tied to Jeffrey Epstein. The measure passed with overwhelming bipartisan support after Massie advanced it using a discharge petition in the House.
Greene was also part of the push to release the files and had long positioned herself as one of Trump’s most loyal defenders. But Trump’s remarks came only hours after her resignation announcement, signaling a sharp shift in tone and suggesting her association with Massie contributed to his backlash.
The episode underscores widening fractures inside the GOP as key figures weigh proximity to Trump against policy independence. With the Epstein files release moving forward and Greene exiting Congress, Massie appears positioned to remain a persistent irritant to Trump, while the former president continues to demand total allegiance from Republicans heading into a volatile election environment.
