Trump May Headline America 250 Events After Entertainers Exit Freedom 250 Concerts
President Donald Trump said Saturday that he is considering delivering a major speech and holding an “America Is Back” rally after a growing number of entertainers withdrew from planned Freedom 250 concert events tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebration.
The proposal emerged after artists including Bret Michaels, Martina McBride, Young MC, Morris Day and The Commodores announced they would no longer perform at scheduled events associated with the Great American State Fair and Freedom 250 programming. Several performers said they were not initially aware of the event’s political associations and wanted to avoid becoming part of a partisan dispute.
Freedom 250 is helping organize major celebrations connected to the nation’s semiquincentennial. The initiative works alongside the White House Task Force 250, which was established to coordinate events marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Planned anniversary programming stretches well beyond the concert controversy. Projects discussed by organizers include the Great American State Fair, Patriot Games youth competitions, military-themed celebrations, historical exhibits, civic engagement events and other national commemorations throughout 2026.
The entertainer withdrawals have created an early test for organizers seeking to balance national celebration with growing political scrutiny. Whether Trump’s proposed rally becomes a replacement event or an addition to existing programming remains unclear. Organizers have not finalized changes to the schedule.
For America 250 planners, the dispute underscores how the country’s anniversary celebrations are increasingly becoming part of broader political and cultural debates about national identity, history and public institutions.
