Trump Promotes Moms.gov and Fertility Benefits as Maternal Health Gaps Persist
President Donald Trump’s maternal-health push is drawing new attention because it combines two high-interest issues: fertility costs and the condition of maternal care in America.
The White House promoted Moms.gov, a federal resource site for new and expecting mothers, alongside a proposed Labor Department rule that would allow certain employers to offer stand-alone fertility benefits. The proposal could cover infertility diagnosis and treatment, with benefits capped at up to $120,000.

Supporters framed the announcement as a pro-family effort. Critics quickly pushed back, arguing that the administration’s maternal-health message conflicts with broader cuts and restrictions affecting women’s health care. Spectrum News also noted Planned Parenthood’s criticism of pregnancy centers linked from Moms.gov.
The larger policy question is whether the new tools can address the deeper crisis. CDC data show 649 women died of maternal causes in 2024, while Black women faced a far higher maternal mortality rate than other groups. CDC also says more than 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable.
