Trump Tariff Plan Cost Manufacturing Jobs Instead of Restoring Them, Report Finds
A new analysis obtained by Fox News Digital says President Donald Trump’s 2025 “Liberation Day” tariffs failed to deliver the factory-job revival he promised, estimating that the policy contributed to major job losses rather than a manufacturing boom.
The Advancing American Freedom Foundation report says the tariffs may have left the U.S. with up to 1 million fewer jobs than expected under prior trends, including roughly 75,000 fewer manufacturing jobs in the first year. Fox’s report comes after the Supreme Court struck down sweeping tariffs imposed under emergency-powers authority, opening a major refund fight for importers.

The broader economic record points in the same direction. The Kansas City Fed found tariff-exposed industries likely added fewer jobs, while CBO estimated tariffs would raise inflation and shrink economic output.
Social reaction is already forming around a simple political contrast. Tariffs were sold as a jobs policy, but critics are pointing to manufacturing losses and higher costs.
