Trump Threatens Bill Blockade Until Senate Passes SAVE America Voter Law
President Donald Trump says he will stop signing legislation until Congress passes a sweeping voter-eligibility bill, escalating a new standoff over federal election rules.
The demand centers on the SAVE America Act, a Republican-backed proposal requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that the bill “must be done immediately” and warned that he will not sign other bills into law until it reaches his desk, according to Reuters and Axios reporting.
The legislation already cleared the House in February but now faces a difficult path in the Senate, where 60 votes are usually required to overcome a filibuster.

That means Republicans would likely need Democratic support to pass it.
Democrats have sharply criticized the proposal, arguing the documentation requirements could block millions of eligible voters from registering. Republicans say the measure is needed to enforce existing laws against non-citizen voting.
The clash sets up a potential legislative standoff in Washington as lawmakers approach the 2026 midterm elections.
