Trump Threatens to Sue Trevor Noah After Grammys Epstein Joke
President Donald Trump has threatened legal action against comedian Trevor Noah after Noah’s jokes at the 68th Grammy Awards sparked a furious reaction online and from the White House.
Noah, hosting the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, quipped that the Song of the Year award was “almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” adding that with Jeffrey Epstein’s island gone, Trump “needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton.”
The comments, made live to millions, drew laughter from the crowd — but on Monday morning, Trump fired back on Truth Social. He denied ever visiting Epstein’s private island, called Noah a “total loser,” and said he would send his lawyers to sue the host “for plenty.”
The president also attacked the ceremony itself, calling it “virtually unwatchable” and directing sharp language at Noah and the broadcast. Trump stated the comments were “false and defamatory,” insisting he had “never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close.”
“This was a false statement, and I will respond accordingly,” a White House-aligned source said in a brief statement following Trump’s post.

Noah’s joke referenced recently released Epstein files that included mentions of high-profile figures; Trump has previously denied any involvement in Epstein’s criminal activities.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between political leaders and entertainers who make politically charged remarks on major stages. It also raises questions about potential defamation claims involving public figures and comedians who use satire in their routines.
Noah’s representatives have not yet publicly responded to Trump’s threat as of Monday morning.
Legal experts say the coming days will reveal whether a formal lawsuit is filed and could set precedents for how comedy and satire are treated under defamation law when involving sitting or former political figures.
