Trump White House Denies Report He’s Considering Firing FBI Director Kash Patel
The White House is pushing back hard after a new MS NOW report claimed President Donald Trump is weighing the removal of FBI Director Kash Patel.
MS NOW, citing unnamed sources familiar with internal conversations, reported that Trump and senior aides had discussed replacing Patel “in the coming months” due to frustration over recent negative headlines. The outlet said officials had even floated a potential successor.

Within hours, the White House publicly rejected the story. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted a statement calling the report “completely made up” and shared a photo of Trump and Patel together in the Oval Office. According to Leavitt, Trump laughed when briefed on the rumor.
No formal personnel announcements have been made, and neither Trump nor Patel has commented directly.
Patel, confirmed by the Senate earlier this year, has been one of the most controversial FBI directors in decades, drawing intense attention over his alignment with Trump and his moves to shake up the Bureau’s senior leadership. Any suggestion that he could be replaced — even if disputed — fuels speculation about ongoing turmoil at the top of the FBI.
For now, Patel remains in his position, and the administration insists there is no plan to remove him. The report, however, highlights how quickly political rumors can spread inside Washington’s pressure-cooker environment.
