Trump’s DOJ Just Opened the Floodgates for Foreign Meddling
Pam Bondi killed election security. Now Russia, China, and Saudi Arabia are free to interfere.
Donald Trump spent years ranting about “election integrity.” Rigged votes. Stolen ballots. Massive fraud. But here’s the truth: he never cared about election security—only about controlling the narrative when he lost.
Now that he has won back the White House, he and his allies are tearing down the safeguards that protect American democracy. His new Acting Attorney General, Pam Bondi, is leading the charge.
One of Bondi’s first moves? Disbanding the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force (FITF), the agency responsible for countering election meddling by Russia, China, and other foreign powers (Cyberscoop). At the same time, she’s gutting enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), the law that forces lobbyists and operatives working for foreign governments to register with the DOJ (Justice.gov). And who was caught by FARA? Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chair, for Ukraine lobbying; Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security advisor, for Turkish lobbying; and Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s former personal legal advisor, for Ukraine influence efforts. That last investigation has stalled and is unlikely to go further during Trump’s administration.
This isn’t about 2020 anymore. This is about securing Trump’s grip on power for 2028 and beyond. By dismantling foreign influence protections, Bondi is ensuring that authoritarian regimes eager to see Trump stay in office will have free rein to interfere in future elections.

Project 2025: The Blueprint for Permanent Trump Rule
Bondi’s move isn’t just about shifting DOJ priorities. It’s part of a much larger authoritarian plan—Project 2025. This isn’t a conspiracy theory; it’s an actual, documented 900-page blueprint developed by Trump-aligned think tanks to reshape the government into an extension of Trump’s political machine, authored in part by his just-confirmed Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Russell Vought.
Here’s how Bondi’s actions fit into the playbook:
Weaken Election Oversight: By shutting down the FITF, Bondi eliminates federal scrutiny of foreign disinformation and covert election interference (The Guardian).
Purge Independent Regulators: Trump has fired at least 17 Inspectors General—the independent watchdogs responsible for investigating government corruption (NPR).
Take Over Law Enforcement: The FBI and DOJ are being purged of agents and prosecutors who investigated Trump’s role on January 6 and his past ties to foreign money (CNN).
Silence Opposition: Project 2025 calls for stacking the federal government with Trump loyalists while stripping power from agencies that enforce democracy and accountability (Reuters).
This isn’t about “draining the swamp.” It’s about creating a system where the rules no longer apply to Trump and his allies—but do apply to his enemies.
Trump’s Election Lies Were Never About Stopping Interference
Trump never cared about stopping foreign meddling. He welcomed it in 2016 when Russia helped his campaign. He ignored it in 2020 when disinformation targeted Biden. And now, he’s ensuring foreign influence will be a key weapon for 2028 (AP News).
If he genuinely cared about election integrity, why is he dismantling the agencies that protect it?
If he thought elections were “rigged” against him, why is he making it easier for foreign actors to manipulate them?
Because for Trump, election security was never about fairness—it was about controlling the outcome.
Who Benefits? Trump’s Foreign Backers
Trump’s decision to dismantle foreign influence oversight isn’t just about protecting himself—it’s about empowering the authoritarian regimes that have financially and politically backed him.
Russia – Putin had every reason to want Trump in power. Trump had promised to end U.S. aid to Ukraine, a move that would hand Russia a victory in its war (Reuters). Now, without DOJ interference, Russia’s disinformation machine is free to influence future elections.
Saudi Arabia—After Trump left office, the Saudi royal family invested $2 billion in Jared Kushner’s private firm (The Guardian). With FARA enforcement weakened Saudi lobbyists can operate in the U.S. with even less oversight.
China – While Trump claims to be “tough on China,” his allies have deep financial ties to Beijing. Weakening FARA means Chinese-backed operatives can work behind the scenes to shape U.S. policy without disclosure (Cyberscoop).
These aren’t hypothetical threats. These are the exact kinds of foreign influence operations that the DOJ was fighting—until Bondi shut it all down.
The Bottom Line: American Democracy Is Under Attack—From Within
Pam Bondi’s decision to shut down the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force and gut FARA enforcement is an act of sabotage (AP News). It’s calculated to make elections more vulnerable to foreign interference for his long-term hold on power.
This isn’t about election security. It’s about making sure the next election is rigged in Trump’s favor by any means necessary.

Wow —a whole lot of extreme, contempt-bloated, name-calling, dehumanizing ordinary citizens, rigging things, trashing safeguards and transparency, ominous pronouncements about "the enemy within," threatening to usurp them, or grab other countries (by the . . . ?), etc., going on for people who . . . are "not fascists"!
Of course he did. That's what got him elected at least the first time. So maybe now foreign agents and governments can interfere to boot him out.
