Every time I see any meeting or press event being held amongst all that gaudiness, in my mind I start to hear the carnival organ playing in the background, the suit the felon is wearing suddenly transforms into white sear sucker and I envision a fat cigar hanging from his mouth.
A grandiose ballroom for someone who dances like a person with epilepsy is ironic, to say the least. Trump’s “esthetic” is exactly what you would expect from a guy who idolizes mafia dons and other crooks. Everything gilded. Go visit a family in Queens that made its money from graft and you’ll find the sources of what he thinks makes him look “rich.” I wouldn’t be surprised to see clear plastic covers over all the furniture when no one is around. That’s the way all the Italian families decorated their homes when I lived in a mafia-run neighborhood in Brooklyn in the 1970s.
