U.S. Midterm Ad Spending Projected to Reach Record $11.6 Billion, AdImpact Says
Political advertising spending for the 2026 midterm elections is projected to reach a record $11.6 billion, according to political advertising tracker AdImpact. If the forecast holds, it would exceed spending during both the 2024 presidential cycle and the 2022 midterms.
The increase is being driven largely by competitive Senate races in states including Texas, Ohio, and Maine, where control of Congress could be influenced by a relatively small number of contests.

The projected spending reflects broader changes in modern campaigning. While broadcast television remains a major recipient of political ad dollars, campaigns are increasingly directing money toward streaming platforms, digital advertising, voter data operations, polling, consultants, fundraising infrastructure, and turnout efforts.
The projection has generated discussion among political analysts and election observers about the growing influence of money in politics, the role of outside groups, and the concentration of campaign resources in a handful of battleground states.
