WAVE Investigation Exposes Louisville Hospital Patient Dumping Claims
A viral image showing a patient left on a Louisville sidewalk is reigniting scrutiny over alleged hospital “patient dumping” and what happens when people can’t pay.
According to WAVE News investigations, reporters documented multiple cases where patients were discharged and left outside University Hospital, including one elderly woman filmed in freezing temperatures wearing only a hospital gown.

Witnesses, including a hospital employee, claimed security staff wheeled patients off property and left them near street corners, raising questions about whether hospitals were following federal care obligations.
Hospitals have not confirmed wrongdoing, and federal law allows discharge once patients are stabilized, creating a gray area between legal compliance and public perception.
The controversy is now colliding with a larger national issue: rising medical debt and a system where patients without housing or coverage often have nowhere to go after treatment.
