“We Have to End Insider Trading in Congress”: Texas Senate Candidate’s Reform Pitch Goes Viral
Texas Democratic state Rep. James Talarico, now running for U.S. Senate in 2026, is drawing renewed attention after a clip from a Jubilee Media “Surrounded” episode went viral on social media, showcasing his call for sweeping political reform.
In the video, Talarico tells undecided Texas voters that the first bill he would want to vote on in the Senate would focus on what he calls “comprehensive political reform.” He specifically argues for banning Super PACs, capping campaign contributions, and prohibiting members of Congress from buying and selling stocks, framing the issue as a bipartisan corruption problem.
“We have to end insider trading in both political parties,” Talarico says in the clip.
Another moment from the episode also gained traction after a voter raised concerns about “welfare queens.” Talarico responded by reframing the debate, arguing that the largest beneficiaries of government favoritism are major corporations that pay little or no federal income tax — not low-income families.

The clip has spread rapidly on X, where users across the political spectrum praised Talarico’s calm, persuasive tone. Journalist Zaid Jilani described him as a more effective communicator than some of his primary rivals, noting his focus on persuasion rather than confrontation.
Supporters online applauded Talarico’s anti-corruption message and his willingness to engage skeptics directly, while critics — largely conservatives — accused him of promoting “anti-capitalist” ideas or questioned the constitutionality of banning Super PACs.
Talarico, a former public school teacher and current seminary student, is running against Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) in what remains a steep uphill battle for Democrats in deep-red Texas. He is also competing in a Democratic primary that now includes Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Dallas).
With more campaign appearances and viral moments expected ahead of the 2026 primary, Talarico’s reform-focused message appears to be gaining online momentum.
