We need to keep our roads bridges and tunnels up to date. When they break down, they disrupt commerce, and create serious accidents. The tolls we pay at bridges and tunnels are to fund the upkeep of these vital arteries.
The House and Senate Republicans or soo afraid that pres trump will take offense at their actions that they are letting him trash the Constitution. The pres lies as easily as he breathes even when he does not have to. ( the size of the crowd at his inauguration) Congress has the power of the purse and the money has been approved . It should be used , not as a political hammer for the pres own retribution.
Does this have anything to do with NY being a blue state or the Northeast coast in general? The economy of NYC alone is a huge part of our national economy and trade. It affects every part of the country and jobs from every state surrounding it. This is more of republicans cutting off their noses to spite their faces.
Instead of giving DHS and ICE so much money, let’s get our great country’s infrastructure upgraded. If Congress already appropriated the money, why did it get frozen?
So, what else is new? This administration thrives on lies, delays, obfuscation, and - most of all - the unchecked power to lie, delay and obfuscate. The Republican Congress is MIA with no heroes and leaving only victims.
I think the implications are even greater, with the rise of the tech bro empires and the vast amounts of money they hold and control. If an administration--hostile to a state, region, or initiative of a prior administration (and desirous of different ends or control), decides to slow walk or undermine lawfully proceeding projects, and then turns around to tap the vast resources of private individuals or companies to fund such projects, then the public no longer has any say or control. The means then justify the ends of whatever the new "backers" decide. Private actors gain control of public endeavors. We're seeing this already.
Halting this project is the result of personal pique by a vain and lawless president who cares nothing about the daily lives of Americans.
