In a post shared Friday on its official @WhiteHouse account, the administration unveiled what it calls the “Media Offender Hall of Shame,” directing followers to WH.gov/MediaBias. The site encourages users to “track the worst offenders” and browse alleged examples of “misleading,” “false,” or “biased” reporting. The promo image highlights outlets like The Washington Post, CBS News, CNN, and MSNBC, each stamped with a red “Offender” label.
According to the White House, the new tracker is designed to catalog reporting it claims is inaccurate or intentionally distorted. Visitors can search by outlet, keyword, or claim category. The administration framed the tool as a way for the public to “get the facts” and “see the fake news exposed.”
The move immediately stirred debate over whether a government-run “bias tracker” crosses a line in the long-standing tension between the administration and the press. Independent media-credibility monitors note that the tool reflects the White House’s own determinations and is not an independent fact-checking database.
Still, the rollout signals a new phase in the administration’s messaging strategy: pushing the idea that certain outlets are systematically dishonest while directing supporters to rely on a government-curated list of alleged offenses.
The White House has not said how often the tracker will be updated or whether additional outlets will be added.
