Woman Caught on Camera Trying to Burn Down Kansas City Warehouse Linked to Rumored ICE Facility
A woman was seen on video Thursday attempting to set fire to a warehouse in South Kansas City that had been tied to rumors about a future Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility. The incident drew attention because the building’s potential use for immigration enforcement had already stirred public concern.
Video shared by local outlet KMBC shows the woman spraying a liquid on windows of the structure before igniting small flames, which briefly caught before firefighters were able to extinguish them. Police say no injuries were reported and the investigation remains underway as authorities search for the suspect.
According to local law enforcement, officers were dispatched about 5:50 p.m. Thursday and the Kansas City Police Department’s Bomb and Arson Team is investigating. As of Friday, no arrests had been made.
Earlier in the day, the company that owns the property, Platform Ventures, released a statement saying it is not moving forward with any sale of the warehouse to the U.S. government, effectively ending speculation that it would become an ICE detention site.

“Platform Ventures is not actively engaged with the U.S. Government … involving a sale of its property at the I-49 Industrial Center,” the company said in its statement.
The property had been the subject of community protests and local political debate after officials toured the site earlier this year amid possible federal interest. That controversy had fueled public opposition well before this week’s arson attempt.
Police have not said whether the woman knew the federal sale was canceled or what motivated her actions, and social media speculation persists about her identity and intent.
Investigators will likely follow physical evidence and any witness tips in the coming days as they search for the suspect and try to determine a motive.
