I live surrounded by ranches in rural Colorado. Many are scaling down or even trying to sell, especially if younger family members don't want the business. Ranching is incredibly hard work that never ends. Fewer people today want to do it. Our neighbors used to have around 12 cattle, they sold all but a female and new born bull. About six months ago they got rid of the female and I am sure they will have the young male butchered as soon as he reaches maturity. The cost of feed has become astronomical. One friend found it cheaper to drive several days to Texas for cheaper hay but they had the money for a semi load, most don't.
Everything you said in the article is true. Drought, cost of feed and gasoline, tariffs, etc. People will continue to face the reduction of quality availability and cost increases because:
1) Livestock contribute worldwide 11-17% of greenhouse gases. Climate sensitive people are eating less meat. Consuming less meat is an important factor in addressing climate change unless methods can be developed to capture the methane they produce.
2) Food safety laws. Not only have the prices gone up, so have the risks of meat consumption. The current administration's FDA suspended routine inspections of food processing facilities, tracking of tainted food and withdrawn tracking fatal viruses in cows. Recalls, throwing out contaminated meat is expensive.
good issue. now I'm hungry but my pockets are empty.
The Morbily Rich is another reason why Steaks and Ground beef are so HIGH! Greedy pieces of SHIT! Shall I explain? NOT worth my Breath!

Thanks for the comment. I plan on covering more things link this. Kitchen table issue!!!
Go vegan. Better for the earth and for you!
So they still don’t believe in climate change even though the drought and weather shocks are huge factors in spiking the cost of raising beef?
Thanks for this thorough explanation - appreciate your work!
Thank you…
The work you do is crucial. I don’t eat meat. The US government and corporations have hold a the power to what they can.
First it's bad, then it gets even worse.
If these prices seem high, try Europe. I’m in the Netherlands and I’d gladly pay $14 usd a pound.
Steak? On Monday? Is it your birthday?
