There should be zero question about Rep. Gonzales immediate resignation. The only question in my mind is whether there are criminal charges that can be lodged against his egregious behavior and weaponization of his power and authority over a subordinate. Then again, we're not charging the other creepy sex offenders and pedophiles in the Administration, so I guess he just joined the club. Condolences to the family of Regina Santos-Aviles. I can't imagine the pain they must be enduring.

This is a very sad truthful story. That guy needs to resign , for sure.

Gonzales should be forced to resign immediately and the hell with the majority. What have they done with it anyway? Johnson kept the House closed for most of the year to avoid Epstein files - again protecting sexual predators and pedophiles. And they will lose it in the midterms. Is there no one person in the gop who will take up the cause of this young staffer who was sexually abused by her boss? Even one??saying he should resign is only words. Action is needed

I honestly was not thinking about the impact his resignation would have on their majority control. But of course, any open seat would affect who will be in control and by how large a margin. I think most have been caught up in the misuse of power and influence over someone working for him. And really, this is just one more instance of the same criminal activity that's being exposed in the Epstein files. Coercion, threats, misuse of influence and power, promises of things that the perpertrator's money can provide or the security of your income. It's all criminal besides being immoral, cruel and disgusting.

May this man never know another day of peace.

Ick.

The only thing praise-worthy about Trump is how much of a spotlight he has inadvertently aimed at himself and the other garbage infecting our nation.

I'm genuinely surprised that we haven't seen any petitions calling for his resignation.

The Rep needs to resign, what happened to the religious right….they don’t care a damn about that poor younger staffer. Remember Kissingers‘ quote about power and corruption. Speaker Johnson claims to be an evangelical—what does that mean to allow this type of behavior, empty words which don’t stand up to scrutiny.

Never saw it in the WSJ, the NYT, or the WAPo. Thanks SAEN!

Resignation? How about public humiliation followed by being abandoned in the desert in a blizzard?

Any male in a Congressional office who abuses a staffer to the degree that they take their life deserves to live thru their pain. To live thru their isolation, helplessness and complete devaluation of self. If there were a way to punish the perpetrators so they would have to live thru the same isolation, the same experience in their minds, the same emotions and feelings their actions gave to the victim, the same horrors and total helplessness that their victim felt, I would endorse that punishment. I saw that on I think it was a Star Trek episode, and while I don’t believe in the death penalty, I think this would be worse, and more effective if we had the technology to do something like that. The absolute self-loathing and helplessness this young woman felt to self immolate should be felt by Gonzales, it would be the only appropriate punishment. I remember the horror I felt when I watched that episode, but seeing what some people of power think that because of their position they can get away with anything, I’ve reassessed my thoughts on that.

Thank you, General. This was a excellent report, breaking it all down for us. Like many of us, having been so overwhelmed, with an inbox full of the daily reports of the horror of this Admin’s band of criminals, that I’m sure the headlines about this got deleted.

And this is such an important reminder of the underlying issues of our government, in full view since the Anita Hill allegations, and yet we still have Thomas on the Supreme Court.

As usual Congress (both sides) would rearrange the deck furniture on the Titanic rather than dealing with the real problem which in this case is the abuse of women by men. The only thing that I would have suggested the victim do is to try to directly contact a member of congress such as AOC who would take her problem seriously as opposed to going through channels. The main purpose of channels is to slow a process down so much that the person gives up. A prime example of this even before Trump were people going through channels to become US citizens.
