Beautifully written story with all the facts and all the reasons why there is controversy. I have no issue with the length of the story because it was a very in depth, valuable story filled with everything. However, so many people have limited…how shall I put this nicely…head space? I would have put this paragraph earlier:
“The preservation review did not appear by accident. Congress created it. The National Historic Preservation Act placed a public obligation between federal power and the historic places it might alter. It required agencies to look beyond a project’s immediate purpose and consider what the country could lose.”
This is because when in my opinion, the average people may see that Congress created the mechanism that is driving the controversy over the arch, therefore this is a valid holdup. It’s proof that when Trump says everyone is against him, people can see that it’s not true. Hopefully, 🤞people can start to see Congress as a positive thing after Nov? But ultimately I hope stories like yours, the comments and the Act’s results will kill this project. It’s beyond ugly anyway.

It's disgusting like pedo trump. he only wants it bcuz France has one. What about the destruction he's already done to the East Wing and his crazy ballroom??? It's a dirty shame he wants all this dedicated to himself not the 250th. he's lying through his teeth, he knows it and all the so-called people around him know it. Hopefully this will be turned down. WE THE PEOPLE should not have to pay for his vanity projects. he wants them, he should pay for them. he and his family have made billions since 1/2026 and they should pay. By the way, haven't heard where the building of his ballroom stands! Has it been approved or not? he's still building it and desecrating the White House. Does he understand that it does not belong to him? Is belongs to WE THE PEOPLE, that's why it's called the PEOPLE'S HOUSE.
What a beautifully written piece honoring "process", something that's rarely celebrated and usually mocked. The contrast you show between the careful expertise of the National Park Service in evaluating the wide-ranging impact of this ostentatious mess, and the cavalier hubris of its perpetrator is simply breathtaking. Just knowing that the harms have been documented and publicly shared makes me feel a little better, even if it's eventually foisted upon our helpless Capitol. Bearing witness matters!

Maybe we should wait to build it until Trump is gone and the full Epstein files are released. Then we save time and money having to rename it.
