Now is the time to remove the Electoral College from our election process. It is, and always has been, a political aberration and a negative additional step we have been strapped with since its inception. One citizen, one vote that counts, and the person who receives the most votes amongst the population should be elected. If you look at presidential elections won by electoral votes received, without receiving the popular vote, you will note the issues that arise during their tenures. Removal of the Electoral College would bring legitimacy to our democratic republic's election processes and allow for voters' voices to be more equitably and realistically heard -Thus better aligning our presidential and congressional election processes with the Constitution.
Thank you so much for bringing up what I took for granted- the two party system. The deeper problem is systemic and it is simply called human greed. Implicit in the constitution’s “three separate but equal branches” the greed factor is addressed otherwise why the founders have created “checks and balances”. Think- why would we need checks and balances? Perhaps in order to check greed and balance power. And, when power is not balanced the powerful become greedy. So, really at the bottom of the problem is plain old human greed. In the presence of “checks and balances” the powerful can become uber greedy by simply ignoring the checks and balances. The current administration is an example of this. In order to curb issues like this folks like to throw around the word “accountability”, a meaningless word to the powerful and greedy. Accountability is irrelevant if you don’t care about your reputation or the prize for your greed is that you become uber wealthy. Enforcement is the crucial missing piece and must follow the “offense” immediately and swiftly. The enforcement is an adverse consequence which inescapably follows your greedy actions. It is a punishment and must be sufficiently severe to deter others from similar actions, and the operative here is “others” because your greed gets you knocked out of the way. Society has to understand these basic ideas before it decides what type of a governing system it needs and wants. And, the need exists… to not be greedy and help your fellow human being.
The thing is, both houses of Congress are almost equally divided. That means almost every bill the Democrats propose has to have some Republicans on board, because if there is a tie, The Bed Bug (JD Vance) casts the tie breaking vote, and he is going to vote the way The Fapweasel (Trump) wants him to. Even if the majorities slightly favored the Democrats, when the bill came up to be signed, The Fapweasel (Trump) would veto it. The Democrats need a veto proof majority.
The reason The Democrats look weak is because the Republicans have enough power to legitimately force things to go their way. Remember, The Fapweasel (Trump) is a very petty and spiteful man and doesn’t like criticism, at all!
The parties are the problem! Two references everyone should read are Mike Lofgren's two books, "The Party Is Over" and "The Deep State." Lofgren's deep state has nothing to do with the Republican fantasy. Here are introductions to both books -
You are correct but I wished you had spoken when these two parties gained this power. The History.
I also wished that you stressed; when voting for a President of the USA, one of them must get elected with out Article ll, section 1 clause of the USA Constitution.
In order to become the President of the USA, one must get 270 votes of the electoral college.
That is why the 2 parties have gain control. So, we can encourage to vote for a 3rd party person in other elections but it will cause chaos. How will a President without the 270+ votes from Congress? But ya whatever. 😠
What about advocating for ranked choice voting?

If the parties were actually interested in representing the voters they would change the primary rules so that:
Super PAC and dark money would be banned.
Independent voters could vote in the primary.
The party would support public financing of primaries.
I think that in the primaries these actions could be legal without a constitutional amendment.
Eventually, as Mike Lofgren proposes at the end of the "The Deep State" we must get rid of all private money in any political campaigns.
The relevant song for today is Don Caron's version of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" -
