You can compare “boots on the ground” in Iran to Iraq and Afghanistan…but when I read this article, I keep hearing “Vietnam…Vietnam“ in my head.

Yep, same here.

I have just read the first part of this piece and am commenting on the "boots on the ground" paragraphs. If this crew of fools wants boots on the ground in Iran then I suggest they send all of ICE along with christy noem to do the day to day patrolling of the streets of Tehran. This would be a good learning experience for ice and noem both.

I hope there is an epidemic of bone spurs so those boots are as empty as Trump’s head.

Combine tRump’s “boots on the ground” statement with the republicans in the Senate blocking a war powers resolution, and descent down the rabbit hole of full scale war seems certain. This won’t go well.

Hopefully everyone has seen this, the religious fundamentalism behind the Trump plan:

I imagine a 'boots-on-the-ground' scenario to be the physical occupation of coastal ports and a bit inland, to permanently seal open access to the Hormuz Straits. this occupation will not be benign as the Iranians will fight back.

To occupy all of Iran the US would have to introduce conscription to raise an army of 2 million infantry - a sure way to speed up the existing bankruptcy of the US empire.

In Trump's head there will be a fantasy that those US troops occupying the coastal strip can charge China a fee for access to Iranian oil, or do a rare earth's trade swap - it is clear to me that part of the US strategy is denial of oil to China - at some point B-2 bombers will hit the railroad taking oil overland to China, if they haven't already.

However at some point China will end up in the same position as Japan in 1940-1941, either they lash out and seize oil assets or end up with a starved economy. Inevitable road to WW3....

I also read somewhere that they are considering taking Kharg Island. We are not the world's police and Israel is just using us to kill their biggest enemy. FDT

An eye opening article. I hope my restack helps share it far & wide (I'm just one pebble in the great pyramid). And as another already stated, this is Vietnam deja vu, complete with another country sucking the US in to fight the battle they started. Easy to do with a completely lawless megalomaniac US president.

Thanks for sharing this. We need to take back our Republic before it is too late!

And when our sons and daughters are brought back in body bags, from Trump's Iranian debacle, we should send letters to the Senators for each and every soldier killed by their rejection of the war powers resolution.

This looks like the republic standard, start a war, let it run for 20 years & let the Democrats clean it up.

That's another distraction. He'll never do that because he knows it can only go wrong. But if he threatens to do it and then backs down, he can portray himself as a good ruler who cares about his soldiers.

I‘m just saying.

The Fapweasel (Trump) doesn’t do his homework. His ideas are half baked.

Very good article. Right on.
