FL Built A Swamp Prison, Trump Withheld the $$
Viral claim:
Ron DeSantis is quietly closing Alligator Alcatraz after Trump’s DHS failed to reimburse Florida.
Political backdrop:
Florida built a migrant detention site in the Everglades, branded by critics as “Alligator Alcatraz,” amid Trump2.0 immigration crackdowns, environmental lawsuits, and allegations of brutal detention conditions.
The reality:
The facility is real. AP reports DeSantis now says it was “always meant to be temporary,” while state and federal officials discuss winding it down. Florida has reportedly spent more than $1 million per day and has sought $608 million in federal reimbursement, which it has not yet received. The site has also faced criticism over detention conditions, legal access, and environmental concerns.
Verdict:
TRUE
Florida built a swamp prison and then discovered Trump’s check was just a photo op.

DOJ Laywers Begs Judge As She Mulls Contempt Against DHS/DOJ
Viral claim:
A Rhode Island judge threatened to hold the DOJ/ICE in contempt after the agency withheld information in a deportation case, and a government lawyer begged for forgiveness.
Political backdrop:
The Trump administration has been escalating deportation fights with federal courts, while accusing judges of endangering the public whenever they rule against immigration enforcement.
The reality:
On April 28th, Judge Melissa DuBose released Bryan Rafael Gomez from custody, stating that the DOJ provided no evidence why he should remain detained. Immediately, a press release circulated accusing DuBose of permitting a man wanted for murder to walk the streets, characterizing her as an activist judge. DuBose ordered the government on May 4th to explain why officials should not be held in contempt after discovering that information relevant to a detainee’s dangerousness and criminal history was not disclosed. DOJ attorney Kevin Bolan apologized, saying ICE told him he could not reveal the information. Reuters also reported DuBose ordered an attorney ethics probe after DHS criticized her over the case in a biting press release.
Verdict:
TRUE BUT “BEGGED” MAY BE EMBELLISHED
Apparently, “respect the courts” now means “hide the facts, smear the judge, then apologize when caught.”
JAG: Coming to a Courtroom Near You
Viral claim:
A Minnesota judge ruled that Trump’s DOJ can use military lawyers to prosecute civilians for crimes unrelated to the military.
Political backdrop:
The administration has been blurring the line between military power and domestic enforcement, while critics warn about the creeping militarization of civilian law.
The reality:
U.S. Magistrate Shannon Elkins in Minnesota ruled that the DOJ may use military JAG attorneys as special assistant U.S. attorneys in civilian prosecutions, even for offenses unrelated to the armed forces. Acknowledging that the move violates Pentagon regulations and raises questions about militarization, the Judge stated that the courts lack the authority to enforce military rules.
Verdict: TRUE
Nothing says “limited government” like bringing the military into civilian court.
TikTok Settlement to Fund Trump’s Arch
Viral claim:
Trump officials may use $400 million from a TikTok child-data settlement to fund Trump’s triumphal arch.
Political backdrop:
Trump has been pushing grandiose D.C. beautification ideas while his administration also pursues TikTok over alleged children’s privacy violations.

The reality:
Reuters, citing ABC News, reported the U.S. is nearing a $400 million TikTok settlement over alleged COPPA violations involving children’s data. ABC reported officials have discussed directing settlement money toward Trump’s D.C. beautification projects, including a proposed triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery. The settlement is not finalized, and the use of the funds is still being debated.
Verdict: TRUE BUT DEVELOPING
Only in this timeline does “money for child victims” become “golden arch for the emperor.”
“Tax the Rich” a Racial Slur?
Viral claim:
Vornado CEO Steve Roth compared “tax the rich” to racial slurs while attacking NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Political backdrop:
Mamdani has leaned into tax-the-rich politics, including a proposed pied-à-terre tax on ultra-expensive second homes, while New York’s billionaire class melts down over being asked to contribute slightly more.
The reality:
Steve Roth, CEO of Vornado Realty Trust, criticized Mamdani’s “tax the rich” rhetoric during an earnings call and reportedly likened it to racial slurs and other hateful slogans. Roth defended wealthy New Yorkers as employers, philanthropists, and major taxpayers.
Verdict: TRUE
The billionaire class has discovered oppression, and somehow it’s a marginal tax rate.

Keep your eyes open for the next edition because in modern America, the hardest part is no longer spotting the fake story. It’s surviving the real ones.
If this game gets any harder, we’re going to need constitutional scholars, trauma counselors, and three Onion editors on retainer just to sort the headlines.
