I'd never trust her as far as I can throw her, but it's a step in the right direction, rather than a far-right one. And she still owes that lad who survived a school shooting a public, face-to-face apology on camera, for hounding him in the street like he was the criminal; when she does that, I'll pay more attention to her.
Never trusted her and never will - no matter what she says. I agree with you, let her actions speak for her. She's fickle, she'll go whatever way the wind blows to favor herself.
Aren't you suspicious about the complete turn around of MTG? What is she running for? She has had threats but continues to defy the orange monster the WH.
She doesn't have the votes for it.Plus she is quitting the House. I think she will take Johnson down first. Hell hate no fury like a scorned woman.....
Oddly, as a Warren supporter, I found myself for the first time in my BabyBoomer life, seriously thinking about not paying taxes. I write this because the feeling was as much of a surprise to me as hearing the same concept coming from MTG. I was not thinking of not paying as a tax revolt. It was in much simpler terms watching so much money being floated for personal convenience of the Administration, airplanes, resorts (he pays himself) golf housing for secret service paid to him, that doesn't feel like something I would like to contribute to. After screwing people out of healthcare, rendering farmers products valueless, charging fees at National Parks, drilling, mining, clearing......
I agree about the total misuse of our tax dollars. Was just talking about that this morning. His pompous ego is being satisfied in countless ways while he deprives the American people of basic necessities of survival. I do not agree with the concept of not paying taxes. Everything outlined in this post educates us as to how dangerous that is. Trump has already done enough damage creating a faction in our democracy by creating MAGA. Let's not finish the job and further break down our democracy. We have to work smart and stay level headed. We don't want to destroy our country while trying to save it!!! Let's work at getting the people elected who have always worked for the people. Get our government in working order again.
Marie Antoinette & Louis. That is really going to be a problem. Education has gotten the smack down, and those who lost their jobs a year ago, they are not going to want to go back. I don't think we can successfully jump start services that have been shrunken, re-hire research scientists.
I do not advocate withholding taxes at this point. Who is paying for ICE?
No doubt, we are. Like countless other misuses of government money! That's one of many reasons we need to take back the majority in Congress and hope trump finally gets punished like all other criminals.
The 5 comments here so far focus on MTG, when the article itself states: “It’s tempting to dismiss Greene’s comments as just another provocation. That would be a mistake.
What she articulated — perhaps unintentionally — is something deeper: a growing willingness within the MAGA coalition to abandon the basic mechanics of the state when they no longer feel emotionally satisfying.”
I agree with that point - this is deeper than MTG and is very concerning. Any elected official or candidate who is truly committed to keeping the nation functioning as a democracy should be focusing on addressing the legitimacy crisis and addressing the fundamentals of who/what the USA is in the 21st century. The neoliberal Democratic Party leadership of 1992-2024 are majorly culpable in terms of not addressing these root problems and their causes. Yes, there major obstacles during that time period, and there were some successes and good moves, but not enough. Leadership focused way too much on the elites. The rise in popularity of Sanders, AOC, Mamdani and others are clear signs that a new direction is needed from what’s left of decent Democratic leadership. I’m neither pessimistic nor optimistic about where things are heading, but will reiterate that the topic of this article is not MTG, it’s much deeper.
Again, great dissection of something we should not take lightly. Trump and MAGA have already done enough damage to this country and our government. Let's work at preventing them from doing more and destroying the very structure and concept of it completely. Protest, speak up and stand up, donate to campaigns and Vote. I refuse to stoop to their level of corruption, I refuse to contribute to the destruction of my country. Fight within the law - VOTE!
This misguided effort is similar to the blue states no longer paying federal taxes to prop up the red states. Emotionally satisfying but severely lacking in execution. The only way any of this works is the next president needs to pardon all of the tax scofflaws which calls off the IRS and their penalties. And no party has that amount of political courage.

I don't suspect a 'road to Damascus' conversion to reality and conscience, but I do suspect survival instincts and ambition.
Agreed, the question is where she plans to go. Senator or Governor?
Speaker of the House...?

MTG was never going to make it. She looks/is way too old for the Lyin' King.

🎩📜🇺🇸 “The Emergency Hat Trick”
In Washington town, where the marble walls gleam,
A President shouted, “I’ve got a BIG scheme!”
Not bills through the chambers, not votes, not debate—
He yanked a red lever and changed the whole gate.
He hollered “Emergency!” loud as a horn,
Again and again—new powers were born.
(Reports say nine new since January’s first day,
Plus old ones still active from back in the fray.)
Now emergencies—sure—can be handy and right
When storms hit at midnight or missiles take flight.
But when “crisis” is painted on regular stuff,
That’s when democracy’s guardrails get rough.
Then April rolled in with a show and a cheer:
“Liberation Day!” (with a tariff-y sneer).
He signed and he charged with a national-threat claim,
Though Congress has tariff power right in the frame.
And if Congress could challenge? Well, here’s the odd twist:
A rule got slid in with a sneaky-tight fist—
It said, for a while, days wouldn’t count as days,
So the “vote to end it” got trapped in a maze.
That’s “exception” talk—where the law gets bent,
So one loud decider can do what he meant.
Old theorist Schmitt (from a dark chapter’s school)
Said power shows up when you rewrite the rule.
And later the President bragged, bold and grand,
“I can do what I want—if danger’s at hand!”
That’s not how our founders designed the whole deal—
Democracy works when the checks are real.
So grandparents glow with the lantern-phone light,
We share what we learn—so the people stay bright.
Because “emergency” can’t be the everyday tune…
Or freedom gets swallowed by power-mad gloom. ✨🗽📣
