A Dark Day for American Democracy
Charlie Kirk was assassinated today while speaking at Utah Valley University. No matter what you think of his politics, this is a tragedy. He was an American exercising his right to free speech — a right every one of us depends on.
Political violence has no place in this country. When ideas are answered with bullets instead of ballots, all of us lose. We lose the debate, the discourse, the ability to challenge one another and move forward as a democracy.
I’ve said it before: ballots, not bullets. That principle is what separates democracy from tyranny. Today, that principle took a hit.
Tomorrow, the sun will rise, and we’ll still have a choice: to defend the Constitution, to protect our freedoms, and to keep speaking out — even when it’s hard.
This is a sad day in America. Let’s make sure it doesn’t become the new normal.
